In the Reformed tradition, marriage is not a sacrament, meaning it is not a holy thing that can never lose its bond or power, like Baptism or Holy Communion.
A wedding in Reformed understanding is the blessing of a marriage, a ceremony where two people give each other promises before God and the gathered congregation, and receive God’s blessing for their life journey together. The couple may choose to have a registrar in church with them or to have been to the registrar’s office before the church service.
Therefore, we welcome whoever wants to get married, no matter if someone has been previously married and divorced, or if you are a same sex couple wanting your civil partnership to be blessed.
